This document is the result of our effort to cut all the unnecessary technicalities and focus only on the essential aspects of options by providing the intuition behind each concept to help everyone understand. This is a self-contained course that covers everything you need to know to get familiar with options and start trading them.
What’s covered in the document?
We start from the basics of options to help you understand how they work and what affects their price. We then provide a clear description of what a volatility smile/skew is and what drives its movements. We also introduce more advanced concepts like implied distributions and risk-neutral probabilities in a very clear and practical way and show you how they can be used to select a strategy.
A large part of the document is then dedicated to options greeks and trade adjustments. This will help the reader consolidate all the concepts and see various practical use of options, including how they can help to adjust a winning or a losing trade as the market moves.
After covering all the fundamentals, we invite you to check other notes under the “Option Strategist” series where we teach users how to manage specific option strategies, in particular when the market moves against the position. Each note will show the strategy setup as well as all the adjustments to adapt the strategy to the new market expectations.
